Limpopo impounds and arrest transgressors

MEDIA STATEMENT  27 March 2020  Limpopo impounds and arrest transgressors  Limpopo Government has intercepted about 5 Taxis and arrested one for operating illegally during the first day of  Lockdown.  Three Gauteng registered taxis were intercepted in Modimolle driving without operating licenses, one 16 seater was actually carrying 20 people.

One 22 seater was intercepted carrying 27 people, and the other 16 seater did not have a permit. A sedan driver with a Department of Health permit was arrested for drunken driving.   On the eve of the Lockdown on Thursday Premier Chupu Mathabatha and Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba conducted a road block to trace and monitor those driving from Gauteng and other Provinces.

Thousands of commuters, some in buses, others in private and taxis were monitored and most were tested in a mobile laboratory at Mantsole Traffic Centre on the N1 and R101 yesterday (Thursday).   The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Mavhungu Luruli Ramakhanya and MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba have been monitoring the first day of the LOCKDOWN and realised people went on as if everything is normal.

Reports from all over Limpopo have shown that from Musina to Lephalale, from Giyani, to Letaba, Thohoyandou to Malamulele and Mall of the North that citizens thronged shopping Malls without adhering to social distancing.   MEC Mavhungu Luruli Ramakhanya says police at Thavhani  and Paledi Malls continued to monitor the situation. She assured Limpopo that police will continue to make sure Lockdown regulations are adhered   Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha has displayed displeasure in the way people behaved. With the number of infections having scaled more than 1100 mark in South Africa , the Premier said this has reached catastrophic proportions.

‘I wish to call on Limpopo that police and army may not be everywhere, we should be responsible and stay indoors, Where police and army will find you disobeying the Lockdown rules, the police will  and should arrest you”,the Premier said.   A Special Executive Council will meet twice next week to evaluate and update on the Lockdown process in the Province.   #Stayhome, #staysafe. #COVID-19 is real.

    Well it's bad how our people are so ignorant We must learn from ITALY ,imagine moving from one province to another with the virus spreadingit to the poor people who can't even affort medical aids
